Singapore will Host The World
First Youth Olympic Games 2010
Blazing the trail together in marking our page in sporting history
(Singapore, ad-wow.com, 22 Feb 2008) The entire nation rejoices over the International Olympic Committee decision to award the rights to host the inaugural First Youth Olympic Games in 2010 to Singapore. In securing this, Singapore had to edge out its popular rival - Moscow in the final round of the selection process. This is indeed an honour for us as all IOC members were required to cast their vote on the city of their choice to host this prestigious sporting event, reaffirming worldwide support for Singapore.

The eagerly-awaited result was announced by the President of the IOC, Jacques Rogge in a live web telecast from the Olympic Museum in Lausanne to a packed crowd of more than 5000 supporters who flocked the YOG2010 Countdown Party at the Padang in Singapore on 21 February to show their support for Singapore's YOG2010 bid. The idea for Singapore to host the YOG2010 was the brainchild of the IOC Board member, Mr Ng Ser Miang. In blazing the trail to success, Singapore had to endure a grueling journey in facing intense and stiff competition from eight other candidate cities - Athens, Bangkok, Debrecen, Guatemala City, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow, Poznan and Turin.

One of the key reasons for Singapore's success is the city's compact size that made it easily accessible which fitted well with IOC's ideal requirements of the host city. After making history together in securing the Games, let's turn our eyes to support our youths in preparing to win honours at the YOG2010 and do our best in ensuring that Singapore's ever ready to welcome the youths of the world to its world-class infrastructure come 2010.
